“Favourite Things” Friday

Happy Friday to my “tens” of readers! LOL

I’ve decided I need some tools to help me commit to posting here so I’m instituting “Favourite Things Fridays” where I’ll either feature a shop I’ve “hearted” in my Etsy favourites, or give some blog love to a site I frequent in my internet travels or…..we’ll just see where this takes me!

For today, I want to feature an Etsy shop I have purchased from in the past. The shop is called “Red Leaf” and they sell handmade bath & body products that both work and smell just great! I was instantly attracted to their simple yet vibrant packaging, but it’s the products that will make me purchase again.

My first Red Leaf purchase was the men’s soap and shave cube, women’s shampoo bar and men’s aftershave lotion (photos of each below).

I went on a vacation to the Bahamas in April and took the shampoo bar with me. Not only was it easy to pack because of it’s small size, but it worked just great! My husband, not really one for gushing over personal hygiene products, has already asked me if “the people I got the shave cube from” sell soap too! I figured that was an endorsement in itself so Red Leaf became my first Friday Favourites feature!

One Lovely Blog award

I received a fun email this morning that Carmen Bowe of CB Design Studio on etsy had honoured me with a “One Lovely Blog” award. I’ll be back soon with some links to other blogs I think should be recognized with this fun award:

If you remember a few weeks back, I posted about Carmen’s jewelry and this necklace that I thought hinted would make a fabulous mother’s day gift for me? Well the hints worked because I received one on May 10, engraved with my kids’ names and I wear it every day. Couldn’t be happier with it!

Thanks Carmen!

Photographers of Etsy (POE)

I belong to a group called the “Photographers of Etsy” or POE for short, whose goals are to promote the wonderfully talented Etsy photographers, and also “to inform the public about methods, styles and types of printing available so that they will have tools to make educated buying decisions.”

The POE team has a blog here where they feature new work and host interviews with various Etsy photographers.

I was fortunate enough to have Purple featured this week! What a thrill to see one of my images there!

Please browse around their blog and be inspired!

Newly listed in my Etsy shop…

Actually these have just been RE-listed, but I realized that I’ve never posted them here.

Just two perspectives on the same flower. These prints would look lovely displayed together or on the front of one of my fine art notecards.

Canadian Rockies Art on Etsy

Nathalie, from “Canadian Rockies Art” on Etsy, was kind enough to include my print “Purple” in her first Wordless Wednesdays blog post here featuring a few etsy photographers.  Thanks again Nathalie….your blog is looking great and I love your idea of doing your own personal Etsy treasuries.

Please hop over to Nathalie’s etsy shop at www.CanadianRockies.etsy.com and have a look at her gorgeous creations. Here are a few of my favourite earrings for sale in her shop right now:

Do all artists ask themselves these questions?

I think so….at least once in a while:

Spotted on “Indie Spotting”!

My art print, “Daisy Dream”, available on my Etsy site,  is featured today on Indie Spotting! Click on the actual photo on the Indie Spotting site and it will take you right to my Etsy shop. How cool!

Hop over and check it out along with the other great finds they’re featuring from some really creative people.

What a small world

Now that I have an up-and-running Etsy shop I’m spending even MORE time there than I ever did searching for beautiful, one-of-a-kind gifts for upcoming birthdays, or just admiring the creativity of so many of the sellers there.

The other day, I marked Carmen Bowe to my favourites and received a great convo back from her not only thanking me for the “heart” but also to let me know that my business card had crossed her desk at her day-job. It turns out we have some friends in common and I have photographed people in her office for their business head shots.

What a small world!

Anwyay, because I love her site and would love one of these pendants (pictured) for Mother’s Day (hint to my boys!), I thought I would share some eye candy from her shop here. Beautiful stuff Carmen!

Announcing….my new Etsy shop!

I finally did it….after months of talking about it: I’ve opened an Etsy shop at www.janetwhalen.etsy.com .

I have a few prints listed already and am adding more daily. Future listings will include Art/Greeting cards printed by me on Crane Museo art card stock which is a beautiful, velvety card stock that really shows off the colours and textures in my images.

One image I’ve already listed is of a beautiful summer day in Deep Cove which is in North Vancouver, BC.  The scene just reminds me so much of everything Vancouver has to offer….the water, the mountains, the active lifestyle. I manipulated this one a bit in Photoshop to give it the look of a watercolour painting. I’m printing this as an 8×10 on Epson Velvet Fine Art paper and the colours look just as rich and vibrant as I remember on the day I shot the photograph.

Here’s the digital version:
